Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity is looking for organisations to take part in our Krypton Challenge.

Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity is looking for organisations to take part in their Krypton Challenge. The Krypton Challenge, as you may have guessed, is based on the much-loved hit British game show – The Krypton Factor which was broadcast on ITV from 1977 to 1995. The theme is being reinvigorated for the business community and the charity is delighted to have the involvement of the show’s original host, Gordon Burns.

Spaces are limited so be sure to book your place as soon as possible!

Teams will undertake a total of eight exciting rounds taking place during an interactive dinner in the iconic Museum of Science and Industry on the 23rd September (7pm start). Most these rounds will involve using digital keypads at the gala dinner and will test the contestants on mental agility, general knowledge (current affairs) and observation.

In addition, there will be pre-filmed rounds recorded at the Etihad Campus on Monday 4th September 1pm – 5 pm and 5th September 8.30am – 5.30 pm. These will consist of the `Intelligence round` and the infamous ‘physical ability round’ – (don’t worry it’s pretty gentle!)

Teams already signed up to take part include ANS, Nuffield Health, Ryman, Betfred and Bruntwood.

How to enter

The event costs £2,500 per team of 5 players to enter (this can be raised through sponsorship) and this includes a table of 10, with the table including plus ones of the contestants, at the final dinner. The final dinner will include a champagne reception, a night hosted by celebrity presenter Gordon Burns, a three-course meal, interactive quiz, and auction.

Help us reach our target for the night - £100,000

All funds raised will go towards our Project: Heart Care for Children. This money will buy a new echo machine for the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital’s Paediatric Cardiology out-patient department.

The Echo machine is similar to the machine which produces the ultrasound scans used in pregnancy, and is especially useful for diagnosing heart disease in new-born babies and children as it is painless and easy to do.

Having a brand new, state-of-the-art Echo machine, with cutting edge technology will allow our clinicians to obtain quicker and more accurate images. This new technology will reduce the length of time each scan takes, making the experience far less distressing for our young patients and allowing our clinicians to see more patients.

If you would like to take part in this event please contact [email protected] or call him on 0161 276 4601

As a not-for-profit business club, we not only regularly donate money to our designated charities but the club and its members continue to provide support and promotion throughout the year through other means.

We are delighted to continue our support of two chosen registered charities, Genie Networks and 318 Air Cadets Squadron Sale, once again in 2017.

As a not-for-profit business club, we regularly donate money to our designated charities and during 2016, as well as providing support and promotion, we were pleased to donate £750 to each.

Each charity is given the opportunity during the meeting to deliver a presentation, on a rotational basis with other members, setting out the work undertaken by the charity. This is in addition to a weekly outline which may include reinforcing the purpose of the charity, how we can support special events, raise money, and how we can help to promote the charity to those who may be able to benefit from the charity work.

Genie Networks

Based in Stretford, Greater Manchester, Genie Networks provides support for deaf people and their families. Established by Claire Johnson in 2005, the charity has gone from strength to strength with a dedicated team, all with experience and backgrounds linked with deafness, who are passionate about the work they do.

Did you know approximately 9 million people in the UK have a hearing loss?

Children

The use of events and activities in safe and fun environments enable families to play and learn together encouraging communication and education for children of all ages. There are multiple events throughout the year for children to attend and interact.

Did you know 90% of all deaf children are born to hearing parents?

Genie Training Academy

It is estimated that 1 in 6 people in the UK have been diagnosed with hearing loss and therefore awareness of communication tactics such as lip reading, English modification and sign language are invaluable skills. Friendly, experienced teachers provide high quality courses which cover a variety of communication and awareness methods. The price is kept at the lowest possible.

Did you know approximately 50,000 people in the UK use sign language as their first language?

On Friday 19th August the Bowdon Business Club will be holding its 200th meeting and to mark this mile stone, we would love you to join us for breakfast and a great meeting. I know you will be familiar with the format, after all it hasn't changed that much over the years, but on the 19th we have invited one of our chosen charities - Genie Networks to hold the main speaker slot. Claire Johnson the Chief Executive of Genie Networks will be personally delivering the talk via her sign interpreter. For those of you who have never experienced either having a hearing disability or knowing someone who has, Claire gives a fascinating insight into the reality of living without sound and to the practicalities of employing someone with a hearing disability. I promise you it is quite an eye opener.

As always the meeting will be held at The Mecure Bowdon Hotel on Langham Rd WA14 2HT. We will begin the meeting at 06:45 with some open networking prior to breakfast being served at 07:00. During the meeting we will invite you to give us a small infomercial on your business, but you need to keep it super brief as you will only get 1 minute max.

The meeting will come to a close around 08:30 when we would ask for a couple of minutes just for you to provide us with a little feedback and allow us to make two donations to our selected charities. After that if you want to stick around for another coffee then you are most welcome, if not, then you will have hardly broken in to your working day. What's more you may have actually made some new and valuable contacts.

Come and join us, you will be made most welcome. All I ask is that you reply to this email and confirm by Tuesday 16th latest, but hey, why wait till then? put it in your diary and get committed now.

Looking forward to seeing you there

Kindest regards
Mark Haywood
Charities Coordinator for The Bowdon Business Club

Ps. The breakfast is on us.....just bring plenty of business cards to give out

“Is everything alright with your meal…?” https://www.bowdonbusinessclub.co.uk/news/item/373-%E2%80%9Cis-everything-alright-with-your-meal%E2%80%A6%E2%80%9D.html https://www.bowdonbusinessclub.co.uk/news/item/373-%E2%80%9Cis-everything-alright-with-your-meal%E2%80%A6%E2%80%9D.html “Is everything alright with your meal…?”

A phrase we’ve all, no doubt, heard on many occasions… but how often have you answered honestly?

A phrase we’ve all, no doubt, heard on many occasions… but how often have you answered honestly?

The most common scenario is that we smile, nod approvingly, avoid eye contact by staring into the bottom of our glass and then turn to our companions with a detailed diatribe on just exactly what’s wrong with the meal and the restaurant and fifteen reasons why we won’t be coming back. And when we’ve left, we tell everyone we know at every available opportunity.

Sound familiar? Most people have done it at some time… but why do we?

Why don’t we just tell the truth?

Is it the in-sincere way the question is asked?

The fear of what’ll happen to your meal once it’s disappeared out of sight and into the hands of the kitchen staff whose work you’ve just rubbished?

Or do we just not like the inherent conflict of the situation; the potential confrontation in having to tell someone their work just doesn’t come up to scratch?

You may not be in the business of selling meals, but your business sells something and its future depends on your ability to keep selling by attracting the right sort of clients and keeping them… but do you know what they really think, or is everything just alright with the meal? Are your customers just “satisfied”, or are they loyal?

There’s a huge and important difference; research shows that satisfaction is no guarantee of loyalty – potentially up to 50% of your “satisfied” customers will leave to the competition within four years if offered a better deal – loyal customers won’t (Chris Daffy – Once a Customer, Always a Customer).

Real customer loyalty is a hugely valuable asset; it creates repeat business, referrals, lower over-heads, lowers the cost of client acquisition and makes marketing easier… but where does loyalty come from and how do you measure it?

To a customer, perception IS reality. It doesn’t matter what you think your business and its products and services are like, what matters is how things are perceived by the customer. Whether you sell to consumers or businesses, all buyers are people and people buy emotionally and justify with logic.

The reasons and justifications they offer for their decisions might sound perfectly plausible, logical and rational, but in reality people’s buying decisions are often based on their emotional responses to the touch points they experience with your business.

Touch points are all part of a client journey that typically includes elements of the following:

  • Selection
  • Becoming a client
  • Use
  • Getting help
  • Making changes
  • Leaving or renewing
For example, it doesn’t matter how good your help desk is if the journey to get to speak to someone leaves your already frustrated customers feeling angry and even more frustrated.

It doesn’t matter if your hotel’s food is Michelin star quality if the car park is miles from the entrance, there’s no-one to help you with your bags, its raining and the staff don’t care.

It doesn’t matter that you sell the very best range of widgets in your industry with incredible levels of customer service if you’re missing sales because potential clients can’t find you and no-one tells existing customers what else you do and how else you could help them…

Of course, you can ask your clients if everything’s alright with the meal… and they may or may not tell you.

They’re more likely to tell someone else. Wouldn’t it be better if that someone else was us rather than your current best prospect or your competition?

You’re more likely to get to the truth if someone with the right experience and expertise asks structured questions in the right way. This gets beyond the logical justifications to the emotional responses beneath to help you understand what’s REALLY going on in your business and to form the basis for evidence based decision making.

Customer and employee journey mapping and customer insight research provide evidence on which to make important business decisions about the future course and direction of your business – vital if you want to arrive at your chosen destination. They help to detect and repair issues and vulnerabilities, but also to learn more about your strengths to be able to use them to greater advantage – a common blind-spot in many businesses in our experience.

Measuring loyalty is done using a tool called Net Promoter Score. It’s very simple but incredibly powerful and provides both an objective and widely recognised measure of loyalty AND, more importantly, the reasons why customers feel that way.

The same tool can also be used to measure employee loyalty, which has many benefits to your business, not least that it can be very difficult to achieve and sustain high levels of customer loyalty without loyal and satisfied employees.

It pays to remember that both your staff and customers are volunteers. They have a choice. It’s up to you whether or not they continue to volunteer.

If they don’t like the meal, they can always go elsewhere… wouldn’t it be better to know what they really think and feel?

On Sunday 12 July 2015, Sally and her 5 sisters took part in the 10k Race for life in aid of Cancer Research UK. Events like Race for Life are vital in funding Cancer Research UK's life-saving work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer.

Bowdon Business club had no hesitation in supporting one of its members and Cancer Research UK by sponsoring the girls.

So far the girls have raised over £1,560.00!

We think you will agree this is an fantastic amount, if you would like to make a donation/sponsor to the ‘just giving’ page below it is not too late and would be amazing. In doing so we can unite and create a force that cancer can`t ignore
